BELTON, Texas – The Howard Payne University volleyball team traveled to Belton, Texas to take on Mary Hardin-Baylor in a double-header. HPU would lose game one 3-0 (19-25, 20-25, 18-25) and game two 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-14).
 
The Lady Jackets are now 7-8 overall and 1-5 in the ASC.
 
GAME ONE
 
Makenzie Weddel finished with nine kills to lead the Lady Jackets offense. Defensively, HPU had three players reach double figures in digs, including Weddel's 14, 12 from Brylee Awbrey, and 10 more from Kassidy Johnson.

SET 1 | The Lady Jackets fell behind early, dropping a tough first set 25-19. Howard Payne trailed by as many as 10 points as Mary Hardin-Baylor grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 in a set that was tied up two times before the Crusaders took control.
 
SET 2 | Howard Payne then lost set two 25-20 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. The Lady Jackets trailed by as many as eight points as Mary Hardin-Baylor grabbed the advantage for good at 12-11 in a set that was tied up seven times before the Crusaders took over the lead.
 
SET 3 | Mary Hardin-Baylor finished the sweep with a set-three victory. The Lady Jackets fell in a tough set 25-18. Howard Payne trailed by as many as seven points as Mary Hardin-Baylor grabbed the advantage for good at 17-16 in a set that was knotted up six times before the Crusaders took over in the second half of the stanza.
 
GAME TWO
 
Makenzie Weddel finished with seven kills to lead the Lady Jackets attack. Defensively, HPU had two players reach double figures in digs as Weddel had 13 and Kassidy Johnson had 13.

SET 2 | A 25-15 set-two loss put Howard Payne behind two sets to none in the match. Howard Payne trailed by as many as 10 points as Mary Hardin-Baylor grabbed the advantage for good at 12-11 in a set that was tied up six times before the Crusaders took over the lead.

SET 3 | Howard Payne could not win the third set and was swept by Mary Hardin-Baylor. The Lady Jackets fell behind on the first point and never took the lead before losing the set 25-14.
