AUSTIN, Texas --The Howard Payne volleyball team needed just four sets (25-19, 22-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-17) to take down the Concordia (TX) Tornados Saturday on the road at Concordia Fieldhouse.
The win moved the Lady Jackets' record to 8-8 overall and 2-6 in ASC play.
Rylee McAlexander finished with 14 kills on the day to lead the Yellow Jackets offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .464.Makenzie Weddel also pitched in with five in the contest. Defensively, HPU had three players reach double figures in digs, including Brylee Awbrey's 25, 19 from Riley Brittain, and 11 more from Kassidy Johnson. From the front row, McAlexander contributed five blocks.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Jackets seized an early lead, easily winning the first set 25-19. Howard Payne grabbed the advantage for good at 8-7 in a set that had just one lead change before the Lady Jackets took over the lead. Howard Payne also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set. got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked five Concordia (TX) attacks in the stanza.
SET 2 | Howard Payne then dropped the second set 25-22, evening things at a set each. The Lady Jackets trailed by as many as six points as Concordia (TX) grabbed the advantage for good at 21-20 in a set that was knotted up five times before the Tornados took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 3 | Howard Payne then got back on the winning track, emerging victorious in set three and taking a two sets to one lead in the match. The Lady Jackets trailed by seven points at 17-10 before rallying to win 25-23. Howard Payne grabbed the lead at 18-17 and hung on for the set win. The Howard Payne offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
SET 4 | Howard Payne kept the momentum going, claiming the match win with a 25-17 fourth-set victory. The Lady Jackets grabbed control of the set at 2-1 and never looked back. Howard Payne led by nine points at 13-4 before closing out the stanza. Howard Payne also supplemented their offense with five aces in the set. Howard Payne got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked five Concordia (TX) attacks in the stanza and capitalized on 10 Concordia (TX) attacking errors on the way to victory.
The Lady Jackets will be back at the Brownwood Coliseum October 10th at 6:00 PM taking on ASC opponent McMurry University.
