BROWNWOOD, TX --The Howard Payne University volleyball team took down the McMurry War Hawks 3-1 (25-12, 25-20, 18-25, 25-21) Tuesday at home at Brownwood Coliseum.

The conference victory improved Howard Payne's record to 9-8 overall and 3-6 in ASC action.

The Lady Jackets were led by a double-double from Makenzie Weddel, who registered 18 kills and 12 digs on the day. Brooke O'Neal also added 14 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Kassidy Johnson chipped in for with 20 digs to go with seven blocks from Rylee Spencer.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Lady Jackets grabbed control of the set-one lead at 4-3 and never trailed to win 25-12. Howard Payne opened up its biggest lead, 13 points, to close out the set, totaling 17 kills in the process.

SET 2 | Howard Payne took set two 25-20 to quickly grab a 2-0 lead. The Lady Jackets never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 14-13 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Lady Jackets took over in the second half of the stanza. The Lady Jackets racked up 17 kills over the course of the set. Howard Payne's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four McMurry attacks in the stanza.

SET 3 | Howard Payne saw its bid for a 3-0 sweep end when McMurry took set three. The Lady Jackets dropped a tough set 25-18. Howard Payne trailed by as many as nine points as McMurry grabbed the advantage for good at 6-5 in a set that was knotted up just once before the War Hawks took over the lead.

SET 4 | Howard Payne then responded to claim the match win with a 25-21 set-four victory. The Lady Jackets took the lead for good at 13-12 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Lady Jackets took over the lead.

The Lady Jackets will be back in action Tuesday, October 16th versus Hardin-Simmons with a start time of 6:00 PM.
