BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's basketball team used a big run to start the second half and go on to claim a 73-64 non-conference win over Austin College Friday evening at the Brownwood Coliseum.

Down 33-25 at the half, the Yellow Jackets used a 17-0 run to start the second half gaining the lead by five mid-way through the second period.

Austin College would regain 61-58 advantage with just under five minutes to play. But Howard Payne used 58% shooting from the field in the second to retake the lead and hold off the Roos with free-throws down the stretch.

Howard Payne forced 23 Austin College turnovers but were outrebounded 43-34 in the game. The Jackets shot 42.1% from the field in the game and the Roos connected on 40% of their attempts.

HPU was led by Chase Glasper with 14 points and seven rebounds. Riley Fornerette had 13 points and three assists. Ben Phillip finished with 12 points which included a three bucket down the stretch to secure the win. Armonie Ramey added 11 points and six rebounds. Fornerette was 6 of 6 from the free-throw line.

AC was led by Jackson Rennie with 16 points followed by Nate Williams and Kidus Getenet with 10 points each. Jason Jones grabbed 13 rebounds.

Howard Payne is now 1-1 overall and Austin College opens its season at 0-1. The Yellow Jackets will play next on Sunday at the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas at 3:00 pm.
