ABILENE, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's basketball team dropped a conference game 91-79 at Hardin-Simmons University Thursday evening at the Mabee Athletic Complex.
With a 36-31 Hardin-Simmons lead at the break, Howard Payne allowed a 55-point second half brought on by 63.3% shooting from HSU in the second period.Â
The Yellow Jackets shot 48% from the field in the second period but 23 HPU turnovers and a 53-45 rebounding advantage for the Cowboys proved to be the difference in the game.
HPU's
Armonie Ramey led the Jackets with 18 points, six rebounds, five assists, and five steals.
Ben Phillip followed with 13 points and seven rebounds.Â
Jarod Johnson finished with 12 points and five assists.
Carter May added 10 points and eight rebounds.
Hudson Johnson had a nine points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Hardin-Simmons was led by Austin Brewer with 25 points and 20 rebounds. Will Bartoszek followed with 24 points and 11 rebounds.
HPU is now 5-5 overall and 0-3 in American Southwest Conference action. Hardin-Simmons improves to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in league play. The Yellow Jackets will play next on Saturday in Abilene, Texas at McMurry University at 3:00 pm.
