SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Howard Payne University softball team scored four runs in the final frame of game two to split its double-header 1-3 and 8-5 at Texas A&M University-San Antonio today in non-conference action.
Game One
Down 3-0 going into the sixth, HPU scored on a single by
Patricia Davila to make it 3-1. The Lady Jackets stranded runners on base in the final three innings and fell 3-1.
Elaine Gonzalez finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate.
Heather Wineman recorded the loss in the start going 4.0 innings and allowing three runs on seven hits.
Sydney West threw the final two innings allowing just two hits and striking out three.
Game Two
HPU rallied back in the final frame scoring four runs in the top of the seven to give them the 8-5 victory.Â
Makayla Wesley started the rally for the Lady Jackets with a homer to left field. Then back-to-back RBI doubles from
Amber Williams and
Zoie Garcia gave the Lady Jackets the 8-5 lead.
Madison Forrester finished 4-for-5 at the pate with two RBI. Six other Lady Jackets finished with two hits as HPU outhit its opponent 18-10 in the game.
Bree Cason got the no decision in the start throwing 4.2 innings allowing five runs on nine hits and striking out three.
Sydney West recorded the win in relief allowing just one hit in 2.1 innings of work.
The Lady Jackets are now 1-3 overall and TAMU-SA stands at 3-5 on the year. Howard Payne will play next on Saturday at the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas. Itr will be a double- header starting at 12:00 noon.
