MARSHALL, Texas - The Howard Payne University softball team ended its conference series at East Texas Baptist University with a 9-4 loss Saturday afternoon.
With HPU trailing 2-1 after two innings, It would be a five-run third inning by ETBU that proved to been the difference in the game.Â
Five different Lady Jackets recorded hits in the game with
Simonne Sanders and
Amber Williams each with doubles. ETBU would outhit HPU 10-5 in the game.
HPU got its first run in the second on an
Amber Williams groundout to score Sanders.Â
The Lady Jackets' big inning came in the fifth scoring three runs on
Maddison Cason reaching on an error to bring home a run, a
McKeanne Saenz ground out to score a run, and a
Madison Forrester ground out to plate a run.
Sydney West got the loss in the start for HPU allowing seven runs on six hits and walking five in 2.1 innings.
Bree Cason threw 2.1 innings of relief allowing two runs on four hits.
Heather Wineman threw the final frame not allowing a hit or run.
Howard Payne is 3-9 overall and ETBU stands a 10-1 on the year. The Lady Jackets will play next on the 24th and 25th at home versus LeTourneau University.
