BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University softball team picked up it first conference victory of the season in a double header split with LeTourneau University Friday afternoon at Lady Jacket Field.
Game One
A 13-run second inning for LeTourneau blow the game open despite Howard Payne scoring nine runs on 14 hits in the 20-9 LeTourneau final. Four fielding errors and eight walks by the HPU pitching staff would play a major factor in the outcome.
Elaine Gonzales led HPU at the plate going 3-for-4 with four RBI.

Zoie Garcia also added two hits each for HPU.
Maddison Cason recorded the loss in the start allowing six runs on two hits with four walks. Syndey West threw middle relief allowing eight runs on seven hits with three walks in two innings.
Heather Wineman went the final three frames allowing six runs on seven hits and striking out four.

The Lady jackets gained a 2-0 lead in the fourth when Madison Cason scored on an error by the LeTourneau catcher. After a LETU run in the sixth, HPU closed out the game in the top of the next inning for the 2-1 victory.
Six different Lady Jackets recorded runs in the game for Howard Payne.
Howard Payne is now 4-10 overall and 1-7 in American Southwest Conference action. LeTourneau stands at 12-7 overall and 4-4 in league play. The two teams will finish out their three-game series with a single game on Saturday starting at 12:00 noon.
