RICHARDSON, TEXAS – The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets fell to UT Dallas this afternoon 12-10.
UTD was able to score two runs in the first inning, one in the second, and three in the seventh.
The Yellow Jackets scored their first four runs in the top of the eighth inning.
Tanner Benson doubled to left center, bringing home
Joey Villarreal.
Landon Prestage doubled to left field, scoring Kaden Kelley and
Tanner Benson, making the score 6-4.
The Comets scored 6 runs in the bottom of the eighth.
In the top of the ninth, the Jackets fought back scoring six more runs. A sacrifice fly to center field by
Tanner Benson scored
Carson Wert.
Kayden Kelley then singled down the left field line, allowing Will Burford and
Joey Villarreal to score. In this inning,
Derek Gifford,
Seth Bowman, and
Kayden Kelley scored the remaining runs.
Unfortunately, the Jackets were not able to score a few more runs, making the final score 12-10 UTD.
HPU outhit UTD 14-11.
Carson Wert led the team with three hits and two RBI.
The Yellow Jackets are now 12-15 overall and 6-10 in conference. They will take on UT Dallas for games two and three in Richardson, Texas tomorrow, April 6
th at 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
