BROWNWOOD, Texas --The Howard Payne University volleyball team fell in five sets (19-25, 28-26, 20-25, 25-19, 12-15) to LeTourneau University Friday at home at the Brownwood Coliseum.
The loss dropped Howard Payne's record to 6-4 overall and 1-2 in ASC play.
The Lady Jackets were led by a double-double from Makenzie Weddel, who registered 17 kills and 22 digs on the day. Rylee McAlexander also added 14 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Brylee Awbrey chipped in 20 digs to go with two blocks from Rylee Spencer.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Jackets found themselves in an early hole, losing a tough first set 25-19. Howard Payne trailed by as many as six points as LeTourneau grabbed the advantage for good at 17-16 in a set that was tied up eight times before LeTourneau took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 2 | Howard Payne tied the match at 1-1 with a 28-26 second-set win. The Lady Jackets persevered in a back-and-forth set to win in a stanza that featured five lead changes and was tied 12 times. Neither team led by more than four points along the way.
SET 3 | LeTourneau went ahead 2-1 in the match after defeating the Lady Jackets in the third set. HPU came up short by the score of 25-20. LeTourneau grabbed the advantage for good at 18-17 in a set that was knotted up 11 times before the LeTourneau took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 4 | Howard Payne then responded to secure set four 25-19 to force a fifth set. A solid performance on the attacking side led the Lady Jackets to victory in the set. Howard Payne put together a .311 attack percentage with 18 kills in the set win. HPU ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza.
SET 5 | Howard Payne was on the wrong side of a back-and-forth match, winning the second and fourth sets, but losing the first, third, and fifth, which they dropped by the score of 15-12, to fall in the match.
The Lady Jackets will be back at home 3:00 PM Saturday, September 23rd versus UT Dallas at the historic Brownwood Coliseum. HPU will look to bounce back from a loss to LeTourneau and even up their ASC record.
