BROWNWOOD, Texas --The Howard Payne men's basketball team shot 50 percent from three-point range on the way to a 102-97 victory over the Dallas Crusaders at home Saturday.

The Yellow Jackets (4-4) had three players score in double figures, led by Armonie Ramey, who put together a double-double with career-highs in points (35) and rebounds (15). Hudson Johnson tacked on 29 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals and Trey Jackson helped out with 10 points and four assists.

The Howard Payne offense was very productive from deep, pouring in 11 threes on 22 attempts. Johnson was the most prolific shooter for the Yellow Jackets, draining four treys in the contest.

Howard Payne forced 24 Dallas turnovers while committing 12 themselves in Saturday's game. The Yellow Jackets turned those takeaways into 28 points on the offensive end of the floor. Riley Fornerette led the way individually with five steals.

How It Happened

After falling behind 25-22, Howard Payne went on an 11-0 run with 9:31 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Ramey, to take a 33-25 lead. The Yellow Jackets then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 44-43 advantage. Howard Payne did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 28 of its 44 points close to the basket.

Following intermission, Howard Payne kept widening that lead, expanding it to 63-57 before going on a 12-0 run, finished off by Johnson's three, to grow the lead to 75-57 with 11:08 to go in the contest. The Crusaders narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Yellow Jackets still held on for the 102-97 win. Howard Payne got out on the break in the period, scoring 17 fast break points.
