BROWNWOOD, Texas --Hudson Johnson hit seven 3-pointers and totaled 27 points, and the Howard Payne men's basketball team took down the Southwestern (TX) Pirates in record fashion with 106-80 win at home Wednesday.

Johnson added six assists and three steals to his 27 point game to lead the Yellow Jackets (5-4). Trey Jackson helped out with 17 points, five assists and two steals and Armonie Ramey chipped in with 16 points, five assists and three steals.

The Howard Payne offense was impressive from beyond the arc, making 23 threes on 48 attempts. Johnson hit seven treys for the Yellow Jackets in the contest.

Howard Payne forced 28 Southwestern (TX) turnovers while committing 17 themselves in Wednesday's game. The Yellow Jackets turned those takeaways into 27 points on the other end of the floor. Riley Fornerette led the way individually with three steals.

How It Happened

After falling behind 2-0, Howard Payne went on a 6-0 run with 18:11 left in the first half to take a 6-2 lead. The Yellow Jackets then added 12 points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 50-34 advantage. Howard Payne relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down 11 shots to account for 33 of its 50 points.

Howard Payne kept its lead intact before going on a 9-0 run, finished off by Ramey's three, to grow the lead to 66-47 with 14:57 to go in the contest. The Yellow Jackets kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 106-80 win. Howard Payne shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting 12 shots from deep to score 36 of its 56 points.
