ABILENE, Texas -- Hudson Johnson scored 25 points and Riley Fornerette added 23, but the Howard Payne University men's basketball team fell in an exhibition to the Abilene Christian Wildcats 107-74 on the road Monday.
The Yellow Jackets had two players score in double figures, led by Johnson, who had 25 points, five assists and three steals. Fornerette tacked on 23 points and four steals and Armonie Ramey added eight points and five steals.
Howard Payne forced 33 Abilene Christian turnovers while committing 14 themselves in Monday's game. The Yellow Jackets turned those takeaways into 23 points on the offensive end of the floor. Ramey's five steals led the way for Howard Payne.
How It Happened
Howard Payne struggled out of the gate, falling behind 60-35 heading into halftime.
Abilene Christian kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 103-63 advantage before Howard Payne went on an 8-0 run to shrink the deficit to 103-71 with 3:23 to go in the contest. Abilene Christian responded and outscored the Yellow Jackets the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 107-74. Howard Payne got out on the break in the period, scoring 17 fast break points.
