BROWNWOOD, Texas --Tara Bennett and Makenzie Weddel both notched double-doubles, but the Howard Payne volleyball team fell to the McMurry War Hawks 3-2 (25-19, 25-23, 18-25, 19-25, 5-15) Friday at home at Brownwood Coliseum.
The non-conference loss dropped Howard Payne to 13-12 on the season.
The Yellow Jackets were led by double-doubles from both Bennett, who had 14 kills and 21 digs, and Weddel, who had 16 kills and 24 digs. Rylee Spencer also added eight kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Kassidy Johnson chipped in for with 18 digs to go with four blocks from Spencer.

SET 1 | The Yellow Jackets seized an early lead, methodically winning the first set 25-19. Howard Payne never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 12-11 in a set that showcased four lead changes before the Yellow Jackets took over the lead. Howard Payne also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set. got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked five McMurry attacks in the stanza.
SET 2 | Howard Payne built on a set-one win by earning a 25-23 victory in the second set. The Yellow Jackets rallied after being down as many as seven points at 10-3 to win the set. Howard Payne grabbed the lead at 24-23 and hung on for the victory, collecting 16 kills in the set.
SET 3 | Howard Payne saw its attempt at a 3-0 win end when McMurry took the third set. The Yellow Jackets fell in a tough set 25-18. Howard Payne trailed by as many as seven points as McMurry grabbed the advantage for good at 11-10 in a set that was tied up five times before the War Hawks took over the lead.
SET 4 | Howard Payne then dropped their second straight set 25-19 to brind the match level at two sets apiece. The Yellow Jackets lost the first point and never took the lead before falling in the set.
SET 5 | Howard Payne grabbed a 2-0 set lead, but couldn't take another set on their way to losing the match. The Yellow Jackets lost the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way.
