BELTON, Texas – The Howard Payne University men's basketball team fell 86-71 at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday afternoon in conference action.
Hudson Johnson led Howard Payne with 17 points and was 6 of 6 from the free-throw line.
Armonie Ramey followed with 12 points and six rebounds.
Mary Hardin-Baylor jumped out to a large lead and the Yellow Jackets had to battle back but still trailed 43-24 at the half.
With UMHB leading by as much as 26 in the game, HPU was able to cut the Cru lead down to 13 points with seven minutes to play in the game.
Neither team shot the ball well both under 40% from the field in the game. HPU forced 21 turnovers while committing 17 and UMHB won the rebounding battle 67-40.
Jarod Johnson added 10 points for HPU,
Myles Brown had nine points, and
Riley Fornerette grabbed seven rebounds with four assists.
UMHB was led by Josiah Johnson with 24 points and 13 rebounds followed by Josh Goings with 20 points.
Howard Payne is now 10-12 overall and 4-10 in American Southwest Conference action. UMHB stands at 11-9 overall and 6-6 in league play. The Yellow Jackets will play next at home versus East Texas Baptist at 7:30 pm.
