BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne University men's basketball team fell 94-77 at home to East Texas Baptist University on Thursday.
After a back-and-forth first ten minutes, ETBU began to pull away from the Yellow Jackets. The Tigers went on an 11-2 run with 7:02 remaining in the 1
st half. Darry Moore highlighted this run scoring six of the 11 points. HPU would score eight points in just 1:37 to cut the lead to 46-38 heading into the half.
ETBU came out on a 12-4 run in the first four minutes of action to increase their lead to 16 points with 16:53 left in the game. The Tigers would add on a few more buckets to make it their largest lead of the game going up 66-44. Despite cutting the lead to ten points with 8:12 remaining, the Yellow Jackets could not complete the comeback losing 94-77.
The Yellow Jackets lost the battle on the boards 31-30 which included ten offensive rebounds. ETBU totaled 21 assists on 35 made field goals.
HPU finished the game 46.6% (27-58) from the field while knocking down four treys. ETBU shot 53% (35-66) from the field nailing 12 three-pointers.
The Yellow Jackets were led by
Armonie Ramey who posted 13 points.
Chase Glasper followed behind with 12 points along with
Riley Fornerette contributing nine points and five rebounds.
ETBU was led by Kurt Labeaud who scored 22 points. Ryan Elzy followed behind with 20 points.
The Yellow Jackets will host LeTourneau University on Saturday as they look to break a six-game losing streak. Tip-off is set for 3:00 PM.
