BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's basketball team dropped a conference matchup with East Texas Baptist University 56-49 Thursday evening in the Brownwood Coliseum.
Howard Payne would trail 50-48 with just under 2 minutes to play but ETBU went 6 of 6 from the free-throw line down the stretch to claim the game 56-49.Â
The Lady Jackets forced 22 Tiger turnovers but were outrebounded 46-33 in the game. It would be 27% shooting by HPU from the field that proved to be the difference in the outcome.
HPU was led by
Asia Mitchell with 10 points followed by
Anna Beamesderfer with 8 points and seven rebounds.

Kyleigh Mauldin each added seven points.Â
Payton Hicks led ETBU with 15 points and Hannah Ayala grabbed 10 rebounds.
Howard Payne is now 7-16 overall and 3-12 in American Southwest Conference action. ETBU stands at 11-11 overall and 8-6 in league play. The Lady Jackets will play next at home versus LeTourneau University on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
