Earle Strings Together 3 Hits in Loss to Hardin-Simmons

ABILENE, Texas -- The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets got three hits out of freshman Jackson Earle in a 10-4 loss to the Hardin-Simmons Cowboys Thursday.

Senior Gary Blair (0-5) got the ball to start for Howard Payne (9-14, 5-8) and took the loss. The right-hander went six innings, giving up seven runs, two earned, on four hits, allowing two walks and striking out two.

Earle's three-hit day led the Yellow Jackets offensively. Junior Landon Prestage compiled a noteworthy performance as well, going 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Junior Grant Pfaff also chipped in for Howard Payne, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 2-0, the Yellow Jackets first put runs on the board in the third inning. Howard Payne scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Prestage.

The Yellow Jackets lost the lead they built in the third, but got back on the board in the seventh trailing 7-3. Earle came across to score the lone run of the inning for Howard Payne, which brought the score to 7-4 in favor of the Cowboys. The Yellow Jackets were unable to get any closer, as Hardin-Simmons added three runs to their tally on the way to a 10-4 final.
