BROWNWOOD, TX - The Howard Payne University softball team fell in a double-header to East Texas Baptist 9-2 and 14-0 in what was the conference opener for HPU at Lady Jacket Field on Friday.Â
GAME 1 | East Texas Baptist 9, Howard Payne 2
The Howard Payne Lady Jackets had a tough showing on Friday, falling to the East Texas Baptist Tigers 9-2 despite the efforts of Kayla Camacho, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Bree Cason (6-3) got the ball to start for Howard Payne (7-7, 0-2) and took the loss.
In the batter's box, the Lady Jackets were paced by Camacho, who went 1-for-3 on the day with two RBI. Maddison Cason put together a standout performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a double. Elise Munoz also contributed for Howard Payne, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 8-0, the Lady Jackets first put runs on the board in the sixth inning. Camacho drove in two runs for Howard Payne with a single, that scored Marian Soto and Ashley Blaylock. The Lady Jackets were unable to get any closer, as East Texas Baptist added one run to their tally on the way to a 9-2 final.

Kayla Camacho (1-4) got the ball to start for Howard Payne (7-7, 0-2) and took the loss.
Ashley Blaylock led the way offensively for the Lady Jackets, going 1-for-2 in the ballgame.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Howard Payne managed zero chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position. The Lady Jackets last got a runner on third in the second, when Blaylock made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.
