BROWNWOOD, Texas --Â Grant Pfaff racked up five hits to help power the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets past the Southwestern (TX) Pirates 16-6 on Tuesday.
Canon De Serf (1-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Howard Payne (12-22). The right-hander went three shutout innings, giving up one hit, no walks and striking out three. Bryson Adare started the ballgame and went two shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out one.
In addition to his four hits, Pfaff had a double and an RBI to lead the Yellow Jackets. Taylor Griner put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk and two RBI. Seth Bowman also contributed for Howard Payne, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and three RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Yellow Jackets scored in six different innings on the way to the win. Howard Payne broke a 6-6 tie and took the lead for good at 7-6 in the sixth inning on an RBI groundout from Bowman that scored Luke Brock.
