SHREVEPORT, LA --The Howard Payne volleyball team needed only three sets (25-16, 25-14, 25-19) to beat the Centenary College (LA) Saturday on the road at the Gold Dome.

The out-of-conference win improved Howard Payne's overall record to 3-0 on the season.

Tara Bennett and Ryann Jones each finished with seven kills on the day to lead the Yellow Jackets offense. got nine digs from Jones to lead them defensively.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Yellow Jackets took control of the set-one lead at 5-4 and never looked back to win 25-16. Howard Payne opened up its biggest lead, nine points, to close out the set. Howard Payne also supplemented their offense with four aces in the opening set.

SET 2 | Howard Payne carried momentum from a set-one win by securing a 25-14 victory in the second set. The Yellow Jackets scored first and never trailed in the set to secure the victory. Howard Payne opened its biggest lead of the stanza, 11 points, to close out the set. The Yellow Jackets hit .423 over the course of the set. The Howard Payne offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.

SET 3 | Howard Payne took set three to finish the match in a 3-0 sweep. The Yellow Jackets seized the set 25-19. Howard Payne took the lead for good at 10-9 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Yellow Jackets took over the lead. The Howard Payne offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.
