LONGVIEW, Texas --The Howard Payne men's basketball team saw all five starters reach double figures in points, but it was not enough in a 111-102 loss to the LeTourneau Yellow Jackets on the road Thursday.

The Yellow Jackets (8-8, 0-1) had five players score in double figures, led by Hudson Johnson, who had 21 points. Riley Fornerette added 19 points and Ben Phillip chipped in as well with 19 points, six rebounds and two blocks.

Howard Payne collected 55 rebounds in Thursday's game compared to LeTourneau's 53, led by Armonie Ramey's 14 boards. The Yellow Jackets also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 17 rebounds into 17 second chance points.

The Howard Payne defense caused its share of mistakes in Thursday's game, forcing 17 LeTourneau turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 15 points on the other end of the floor. Ramey's six steals led the way individually for the Yellow Jackets.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 45-24 advantage, Howard Payne went on a 12-0 run with 4:56 left in the first half to increase its lead to 57-24. The Yellow Jackets then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 60-34 advantage. Howard Payne relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down eight shots to account for 24 of its 60 points.

Howard Payne then surrendered that advantage as LeTourneau forced overtime by tying things up at 94-94 by the end of the second half. Howard Payne took care of business in the paint, recording 20 of its 34 points in the lane.

LeTourneau then took control in overtime and won 111-102.
