BROWNWOOD, Texas — The Howard Payne University volleyball team capped off Senior Day with a dominant 3-0 sweep over the University of Dallas (25-16, 25-11, 25-19) Saturday afternoon inside the Brownwood Coliseum.
The Lady Jackets (10-9 overall) delivered one of their most balanced efforts of the season, hitting .253 as a team while holding Dallas (2-20) to a negative attack percentage. HPU controlled the match from start to finish, celebrating its senior class with an energetic home crowd behind them.
Senior Tara Bennett led the attack with seven kills and a .263 hitting percentage, while Brooke O'Neal matched her output with six kills and a .333 efficiency. Carli Briese added six kills on nine swings without an error for a .667 hitting mark. Setter Halie Coon distributed 13 assists and tallied a service ace, and Brylee Heim made her presence felt at the net with three solo blocks and four total rejections.
HPU dominated defensively as well, finishing with 11 team blocks and 40 digs, led by Ashley Quizon's 11 digs from the back row. The Jackets also posted nine service aces, four of them coming from Addison Roden in her lone set of action.
The Lady Jackets closed the match strong behind a complete team effort in the third set, highlighted by contributions from several seniors in their final home appearance, including Madai Suarez, Gracie Dixon, and Baylee Burns, who all appeared in the closing frame.
"It was a really special afternoon for our team," said head coach Nick Noll. "Our seniors have meant so much to this program, and it was great to see them finish their home careers with a strong, confident performance. We battled for every point and the crowd gave us great energy."
With the win, Howard Payne improves to 10-9 overall and will close out the regular season on the road before play in the American Southwest Conference tournament begins November 14th..
