Howard Payne University Director of Athletics Adam Bright announced the hiring of Amy Farber Teal as the new Head Volleyball Coach, bringing a championship resume, NCAA Division I experience, and a proven commitment to excellence to HPU Athletics.
Teal will officially assume her role at the start of the spring semester and arrives in Brownwood with more than 30 years of coaching experience, including 17 years at the Division I level. Her career includes head coaching stops at Oral Roberts University, Drake University, Northeastern Illinois, and most recently Concordia University Texas, along with assistant coaching roles at Iowa State and the University of Oklahoma. Throughout her career, Teal has led teams to multiple conference championships, NCAA Tournament appearances, and nationally recognized recruiting classes.

"Her experience, leadership, and championship mindset align perfectly with where we are headed as an athletics department. We are raising expectations across the board at HPU Athletics, and Coach Teal embodies our commitment to excellence as we compete at a high level and continue building a destination program for student-athletes."
In addition to her collegiate success, Teal is widely respected for her work in mental performance training, including her involvement with GAME FACE Mindsetâ„¢, where she has helped athletes develop confidence, focus, and mental resilience. Her influence extends beyond the court, equipping student-athletes with tools to perform at their best academically, athletically, and personally.

Teal also expressed her appreciation for the university's leadership throughout the hiring process.

Teal is known for her holistic approach to coaching, emphasizing servant leadership, accountability, and competitive excellence. Her teams have consistently produced conference award winners, 20-win seasons, and postseason success.
A graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Teal earned both her bachelor's degree in physical education and her master's degree in sports management and behavior (sports psychology). She and her husband, Kirk, have four adult children.
Coach Teal will begin her tenure with the Yellow Jackets as she leads Howard Payne Volleyball into its next chapter at the start of the spring semester.
