Jackets Roll to a 2–0 Weekend hosting The Dallas Huston Classic

Jackets Honor Huston With a Perfect Weekend at the Classic

Howard Payne wrapped up a strong weekend hosting the Dallas Huston Classic with a high-powered 112–107 win over Arlington Baptist on Saturday afternoon inside the Brownwood Coliseum, completing a 2–0 weekend sweep.

The Classic is named in honor of longtime HPU broadcaster and storyteller Dallas Huston, who was formally recognized during Friday's game for his impact on the university and the community. Huston, whose unmistakable voice defined Howard Payne athletics for nearly six decades, was celebrated by a standing crowd at the half.

After earning a win on Friday, the Jackets carried that momentum into Saturday's showdown. HPU came out pushing the pace, building a 61–50 halftime lead behind relentless defensive pressure and steady transition scoring. The Jackets forced 26 turnovers and turned them into 38 points, a major factor in controlling the game's tempo from start to finish.

Armonie Ramey led the way with 24 points, five rebounds, and five steals, attacking the rim early and often. Jordan McClendon added 23 points on 7-of-11 shooting while consistently carving up the ABU defense. Jaime Puentes provided a major scoring punch as well, knocking down five three-pointers on his way to 19 points.

The Jackets' depth was a difference-maker throughout the afternoon, contributing 33 bench points and several key defensive boosts. Ben Phillip added 11 points and five rebounds, and Braylon Crosby ran the offense with eight assists and nine rebounds in a steady all-around performance.

HPU dominated the paint with 52 points inside and added 26 fast-break points, maintaining control even as Arlington Baptist put together a strong offensive showing of its own. The Jackets held firm in the closing minutes to secure their eighth win of the season and finish undefeated at the Classic.

The Jackets will now turn their attention to their next match up, looking to extend their early-season momentum.
