GAME 1 | Howard Payne 10, Lyon 2
BROWNWOOD, Texas --D. Bower dominated on Sunday, striking out nine Lyon hitters over five innings of work to help power the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets past the Scots 10-2.

In addition to his nine strikeouts, Bower (1-1) went five innings, giving up one run on two hits and walking one for Howard Payne (2-3). J. Shackelfo also made an impact on the mound for the Yellow Jackets, throwing one scoreless inning while allowing no hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.

In the batter's box, the Yellow Jackets were paced by W. Burford, who went 4-for-4 on the day with a double, a triple and three RBI. E. McNair put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-2 with a double and three walks. D. Smith also helped out for Howard Payne, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Yellow Jackets were trailing 1-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. L. Prestage came across to score the lone run of the inning for Howard Payne and get them on the board.

The score stayed at 1-1 until the very next inning, when the Yellow Jackets put runs on the scoreboard once again. The Howard Payne offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run triple off the bat of Burford, which brought the Yellow Jackets lead to 5-1.

Howard Payne held Lyon without a run before building their lead to 8-1 in the fifth inning. The Yellow Jackets scored three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-run single off the bat of S. Bowman.

The Scots gained ground, closing the gap to 8-2 until Howard Payne added some insurance in the sixth. The Yellow Jackets added two runs off of Lyon pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double from Burford, bringing the score to 10-2 in favor of Howard Payne. The score remained 10-2 for the rest of the game, as the Yellow Jackets coasted to the win.

BROWNWOOD, Texas --L. Prestage and W. Burford each racked up two extra base hits, but the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets fell to the Lyon Scots 10-6 on Sunday.

C. Serf (1-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Howard Payne (2-4). B. Hill was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 1.1 shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out two.

Burford's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-3 day, and included two doubles and an RBI. Prestage made his contribution with a double, a home run and three RBI, part of a 2-for-4 performance at the plate. J. Garza also contributed for the Yellow Jackets, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Scots then rallied to score nine runs and take a 10-2 lead before the Yellow Jackets got back on the board in the sixth. Howard Payne scored twice on Prestage's two-run homer, which brought the score to 10-4 in favor of the Scots.

Howard Payne kept the Scots off the scoreboard before narrowing the gap to 10-6 in the seventh. The Yellow Jackets added two runs in the frame, the big hit being an RBI double from . The Yellow Jackets were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
