GAME 1 | Huston-Tillotson 6, Howard Payne 5
AUSTIN, Texas --Though they had plenty of opportunities, Howard Payne had a hard time cashing them in, leaving 10 Yellow Jackets on base in a 6-5 setback at the hands of the Huston-Tillotson Rams on Tuesday.
Junior Destiny Sanchez (2-6) started and took the loss in the circle for Howard Payne (3-12). Freshman Rebecca Castillo was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 4.2 innings, surrendering one run on six hits.
In the batter's box, the Yellow Jackets were paced by junior Annie-Klein Allgood, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a home run and three RBI. Senior Elise Munoz furnished a standout performance as well, going 1-for-2 with a triple, a walk and an RBI. Senior Makayla Wesley also contributed for Howard Payne, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Yellow Jackets got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Howard Payne got an RBI single from Allgood, scoring Munoz from third base.
The Yellow Jackets lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the fifth trailing 6-1. Howard Payne scored twice on Allgood's two-run homer, which brought the score to 6-3 in favor of the Rams.
Howard Payne held the Rams off the scoreboard before narrowing the gap to 6-5 in the sixth. The Yellow Jackets notched two runs in the frame, punctuated with an RBI triple off the bat of Munoz. The Yellow Jackets were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

AUSTIN, Texas --Freshman Ava Aviles was dealing on Tuesday, hurling a four-hit shutout to lead the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets past the Huston-Tillotson Rams 12-0.
Aviles (1-4) went the distance for Howard Payne (4-12), giving up four hits, walking none and striking out five.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Yellow Jackets took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning.
The Yellow Jackets then tacked on runs in the third, fourth, and sixth innings, with their biggest output coming in the sixth when they scored five times. The big hit in that inning was a one-run single off the bat of senior Elise Munoz.
