HPU drops the first two games to UT Dallas

GAME 1 | Texas-Dallas 5, Howard Payne 3
RICHARDSON, Texas --The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets got a boost from senior Grant Pfaff, who collected three hits in a 5-3 loss to the Texas-Dallas Comets Thursday.

Senior Bryant Chambers (1-2) got the ball to start for Howard Payne (6-11) and took the loss. Senior Brendan Read was a bright spot for the Yellow Jackets, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 1.2 shutout innings, allowing one hit.

In addition to his three hits, Pfaff had a double and an RBI to lead the Yellow Jackets. Senior Seth Bowman put together a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Yellow Jackets got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Pfaff came across to score the lone run of the inning for Howard Payne and get them on the board.

The Comets then rallied to score four runs and take a 4-1 lead before the Yellow Jackets got back on the board in the fifth. Howard Payne picked up two runs in the frame, the big hit being an RBI double from Bowman, which brought the score to 4-3 in favor of the Comets. The Yellow Jackets were unable to get any closer, as Texas-Dallas added one run to their tally on the way to a 5-3 final.

RICHARDSON, Texas --The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets were not able to record a run against Texas-Dallas pitcher senior Ben Price on Thursday and were shut out 5-0 by the Comets.

Freshman Kasey Swan (0-1) got the ball to start for Howard Payne (6-12) and took the loss. Senior Jack Shackelford was a bright spot for the Yellow Jackets, coming out of the bullpen and throwing two scoreless innings, allowing two hits, with no walks and one strikeout.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Howard Payne did not advance a runner past second base in the game. The Yellow Jackets went 0-for-1 with runners in scoring position, last placing a runner as far as second in the sixth, when junior John Garza made it into scoring position with two outs.

GAME NOTES
