BROWNWOOD, Texas - Elijah Flowers-Goodloe earned high praise from the national voters Tuesday after a great performance for the Howard Payne University football team against Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday, October 10.

Goodloe, a sophomore defensive lineman from San Marcos, Texas, logged his first sack of the season on his way to an additional four tackles for loss, backpedaling the UMHB offense for a total loss of 21 yards. On the afternoon, Elijah recorded a total of seven tackles, five of which were solo efforts to solidify himself on the "Team of the Week", according to d3football.com. It was also his heroics that helped Howard Payne win their first half of football against Mary Hardin-Baylor since 2005, sealing the second half 10-7.

"He's been a great addition for us," Jacket head coach Coby Gipson shared. "To have him show up and play like that is not really a surprise because we see it in practice every single day. We look forward to getting more games like that from him, and as he garners more attention from offenses, he will make the game that much easier on his teammates."

After his freshman season at Cisco College, Goodloe made the move to the defensive line for the Yellow Jackets after playing exclusively on offense for the Wranglers. Since the change, "EFG" has shined for HPU. The sophomore heads into Week 7 with 22 total tackles and 6.5 tackles for loss.

Watch Flowers-Goodloe and the Howard Payne defense as they regroup on Saturday afternoon, October 20. The Yellow Jackets will do battle with Schreiner University at 2:00 p.m. Central Time.
