Howard Payne softball dropped both games of a road doubleheader against Centenary College on Tuesday, falling 4-1 in each contest, but saw several strong individual performances throughout the day.
In game one, the Yellow Jackets recorded six hits and were led offensively by Alyana Salazar and Alyssa Orozco, who each finished with two hits. Graciela Quiroz provided the lone RBI for Howard Payne, delivering a run-scoring bunt single in the third inning that plated Colbi Goodwin to give the Jackets an early 1-0 lead.
Colbi Goodwin also contributed with a hit and scored the team's only run, while the lineup consistently found ways to put runners on base. Inside the circle, Alyssa Silva tossed a complete game, allowing just three earned runs while working through six innings and limiting further damage outside of one key inning.
In game two, Howard Payne again tallied four hits, highlighted by a perfect 3-for-3 performance from Alyana Salazar. Salazar also drove in the Jackets' only run of the game in the first inning, continuing her strong presence at the plate across both games.
Kenedi Holly added a hit in the contest, while Casey Trevino scored the lone run after reaching base early in the game. In the circle, Paris Mederez provided a steady relief effort, throwing 5.2 innings and allowing just two runs while striking out four.
Across the doubleheader, Alyana Salazar led the way offensively for Howard Payne, combining for five hits and an RBI, consistently setting the tone at the plate. Alyssa Orozco also turned in a strong showing with multiple hits in game one, while the Jackets' pitching staff worked to keep both games within reach.
Head Coach Bianca Gonzales emphasized the team's fight and continued progress following the games, saying, "We're starting to see our approach come together offensively, and that's something we can build on. Alyana had a great day at the plate, and I thought we competed well in the circle. We just need to keep putting complete games together, and the results will follow."
