Howard Payne University's softball team endured a difficult doubleheader Friday afternoon at Trinity University, falling in both games against the Tigers in San Antonio. In game one, the Yellow Jackets struggled to generate offense and fell 8–0. Trinity quickly took control with an early rally and never looked back, scoring across multiple innings and holding Howard Payne to just two hits. Siannah Nava recorded one of those hits for the Yellow Jackets, while Abeni Nava added the other. On the mound, Destiny Sanchez and Alyssa Silva saw time in relief, but Trinity's offense proved relentless behind strong pitching.
In the nightcap, Howard Payne showed some fight with a two-run effort in the fourth inning as Alyana Salazar drove in a run with a groundout and Siannah Nava helped bring home Brianna Warriner with an unearned run. Despite those runs, Trinity pulled away with a 10–2 victory, highlighted by big innings in the third and fifth that put the game out of reach. Alyana Salazar and Brianna Warriner helped account for Howard Payne's scoring in the contest as the Tigers' potent lineup combined for 17 hits.
"We knew this was going to be a tough road trip against a quality Trinity squad," said Howard Payne head coach Bianca Gonzales. "The scoreboard wasn't what we wanted, but I saw our athletes compete on every pitch, find small moments to build on, and keep fighting until the last out. We'll take the experience, clean up a few things, and build toward the next opportunity."
