BROWNWOOD, Texas-
The Howard Payne University women's soccer team has lost to Wayland Baptist University by a score of 1-0 Saturday evening.

The Lady Jackets created several close scoring chances throughout the match. In the 44th minute, forward Abbie Wetzel hit the crossbar on a dangerous attempt right before half time. Kenzie Cameron also struck the crossbar in the 61st minute before testing Wayland Baptist goalkeeper Ashley Lopez in the 73rd minute.

Wayland Baptist gained the lead courtesy of an own goal right before halftime. Despite generating 11 total shots and controlling momentum for stretches of the match, the HPU was unable to capitalize on key opportunities.

Cameron led Howard Payne's attacking efforts with a team-high four shots. Wetzel added two shots, while Sarah Krusing and Alayna Lopez each recorded one shot on goal.

Landry Combs started the match in goal and recorded two saves, and Cadence Tischler played the second half, and made three saves.
