SAN ANTONIO, Texas- The Howard Payne University women's tennis is currently competing in the ITA DIII Women's Southwest Regional Championships, one of the most prestigious tournaments in collegiate tennis. Through the first couple of days, the Lady Jackets are competing well against the tough competition.
DOUBLES
Sisters
Hannah Lightner and
Julia Lightner extend their doubles winning streak to 9-0. The Lightner sisters beat Liana Herrera and Nataly Velasco from the University of Saint Thomas (8-3) in the round of 32. In the round of 16, Hannah and
Julia Lightner defeated Breanna Taylor and Jaelyn Walker from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (8-5).
The Lightner sisters took down Allison Vo and Katie-Lynn Hoang from Trinity University (8-7) in the quarterfinals. Vo and Hoang are a part of a Trinity University team that is ranked no. 10 in the country in women's tennis.
SINGLES
Junior
Kendra Werlein has advanced to the B semi finals draw after beating Makenize Newell from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (7-5, 6-3) in the quarterfinals. In the round of 32, Werlein beat Sonnae Garcia of Schreiner University (6-1, 6-2).
