BROWNWOOD, Texas - Ryan Campbell, a sophomore defensive back for the Howard Payne University football team, earned Defensive Player of the Week honors from the American Southwest Conference after his stellar performance against Simpson College (IA) on Saturday, September 26.

The Bryan, Texas native led the Yellow Jackets with six tackles on Saturday, including one where Campbell blew up a run for a six-yard loss. Later, in the fourth quarter, Campbell put an end to what looked to be a promising drive from Simpson College, jarring a ball loose from running back Demarico Young in the red zone.

Campbell continues to be a shining star for a Howard Payne defense holding opponents to just 15 points per game, a league low. The sophomore's work in the secondary has been a sight to behold, logging an interception in each of his first two games against Pacific (OR) and Clutch City Prep.
