Casey Pearce - 2019 HPU Sports Alumni Coach of the Year

9580Casey Pearce was a standout football and track athlete at Howard Payne University and that dedication has allowed him to continue to have success throughout his coaching career.

As a student-athlete at Howard Payne, Casey Pearce was a standout on the football field and a 3-time All-American in Track and Field.

In Track, Pearce was a member of the HPU 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams qualifying for the NCAA national meet. Also throwing the Javelin for the Yellow Jackets, Pearce went on to become the HPU record holder and medal at nationals multiple years.

He would rank in the top 20 among USA javelin throwers from 1999-2004 and was a 2000 and 2004 USA Olympic Trails Qualifier in the event.

After graduating from HPU in 1997, Casey went on to have football and track coaching stints at Stamford, Odessa-Permian, Pilot Point and Longview high schools.

He helped lead Stamford to 2 district championships in 1997 and 2001, and 11 district titles in 13 seasons at Longview high school.

As Defensive Coordinator and Associate Head coach at Longview for the past 13 seasons, Pearce’s defenses helped bring home 12 of 13 District Championships in Football at the 5A & 6A level and a 6A Division 2 State Championship in 2018 posting a perfect 16-0 record.

His track teams have also been successful winning six district championships at Stamford, and four district championships and area championship with the boys and girls at Longview. The last one coming in 2018 for the boys, the first in 18 years for Longview high school.

Casey has coached numerous All-District, All-State and NCAA athletes, one Air Force All-American, 6A Defensive Players of the Year, and several NFL players as well as multiple individual state medalist in track and field.

He has been named East Texas Prep Track Coach of the Year in 2015 for girls and in 2016 on the boys side and was also a 2002 West Texas FCA All-Star Game assistant Coach in 2002.

Pearce has been a speaker at multiple clinics as a presenter and lecturer on football and track and field topics as well as serving as an UIL State Track and Field Official for the past 16 years.

Casey is married to his wife Monica and they have one son, Gunnar and currently live in Longview, Texas.
