Brandon Houston joined the HPU football staff in the spring of 2024 as the Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator. Coach Houston also heads the coaching and development the quarterbacks.
 
Before he arrived at Howard Payne, Coach Houston was a longtime high school football coach in the state of Texas as an Athletic Director, Head Coach, and assistant. He has served as an Athletic Director/Head Football Coach at Taylor High School (2021-2023) and Buffalo High School (2018-2020) and spent many years as an offensive coordinator in various Texas high schools.
 
Brandon Houston family 2024In 2021, he took over a Taylor program that was in the midst of a 20-game losing streak and took the team to the state playoffs in just his second year. While serving as the Athletic Director at Taylor, the athletic program finished in the top 30 of the UIL Lone Star Cup, which honors the best overall athletic and academic programs in Texas.
 
Before moving to Taylor High School, Coach Houston was the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Buffalo High School for three years. He guided Buffalo to 3 playoff appearances and a 32-6 record during his tenure. 2018 was a historic 12-1 season for the Bison. It was the first time since 1961 that the Bison went 10-0 in the regular season and first outright District Championship since 1974.
 
2018 was also the first time in Buffalo High School history to advance to the 3rd round of the playoffs. In 2020, the Bison again won 12 games advancing to the State Quarterfinals for the first time in school history.
 
In 2015, he returned to Belton High School as the Receivers Coach for one season before becoming the Offensive Coordinator at Rockdale. In Rockdale, Coach Houston helped the Tigers win the 2017 Texas 3A Division I State Championship.
 
Coach Houston spent seven years (2008-2015) as the Offensive Coordinator and Backfield Coach at Lorena High School.
 
Before Lorena, he spent the 2007 season on staff at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, serving as a Quality Control assistant and video coordinator.
 
From 2005-2007, he worked as the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterback Coach at Belton High School.
 
From 1999-2005, Coach Houston was the Quarterback Coach and Passing Game Coordinator at Grapevine High School. In 1998, he worked at Calhoun High School in Port Lavaca as a secondary coach.
 
Coach Houston started his career in 1996 at Ector Junior High, a feeder school for Odessa High School.
 
In 2005, he founded CoachHuey.com as a way to help share ideas and best practices for the game of football with coaches all over the world. The website has grown into one of the preeminent coaching forums on the internet.
 
With over 25 years of coaching experience and coordinator work for over 20 years, Coach Houston has used his Spread, Read-Option, and RPO scheme experience in serving as a Clinic Director for Texas Glazier clinics from 2010-2022.
 
He also serves as the Executive Secretary of the Texas 7-on-7 Association coordinating and managing the State 7-on-7 Tournament.

He is a 1991 graduate of Holland High School. Coach Houston received his Bachelor of Science from Tarleton State University in 1996 and his Master of Art from The University of Texas of the Permian Basin in 2017.
 
Coach Houston is married to Misty Pierce Houston, an educator and school administrator. They have one daughter, Mackenzie.
