SEGUIN, Texas - The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets completed a four-game softball series sweep of Texas Lutheran with 2-1 and 6-1 victories Saturday at TLU's Morck Field. Howard Payne took both games on Friday 16-2, 3-2.
HPU moved to 20-12 overall and to 11-5 in the American Southwest Conference West Division. It is the Lady Jackets second consecutive 20 win season with two four game series to go in the season.
TLU dropped to 10-20 overall and to 5-11 in the ASC West.
On Friday, at TLU's Morck Field, Howard Payne collected 17 hits in the 16-2 rout of the Bulldogs in game one and rallied for a run in the seventh to take the 3-2 win.
Lauren Vesely singled home the winning run in game two. Lauren Bollich recorded six hits in eight at-bats over the two games. Bollich drove in four runs with four hits in the first contest. She was 2-for-3 with a run scored in game two.
Vesely went 2-for-3 with three RBI in game one, and Ashley Silva added a 2-for-3 and two RBI performance in the first game. Jenna Middleton improved to 6-5 with the game one victory, and Kate McLaughlin moved to 8-4 with the game two victory.
Saturday, Jenna Middleton recorded both pitching victories for the Yellow Jackets after winning one of the two games on Friday. Middleton moved her pitching mark to 8-5.
Middleton went the distance in game one. In her seven innings of work, she struck out six and allowed just the one earned run. In game two, Middleton relieved Melissa Hall in the fourth and did not allow a hit in her 3-1/3 innings of relief.
Lauren Bollich was 1-for-3 with a run scored in game one and 1-for-4 with a run scored in game two. Bollich also stole four bases on the day, including three in game two. For the series, Bollich swiped seven bases.
Brook Schneider and Kristi Pinkerton each drove in a pair of runs in game two.
The Lady Jackets have a four-game series at home versus Hardin-Simmons next Friday and Saturday.
