Lady Jackets Get Win At Schreiner

Hope Hohertz had 9 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals against Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas – The Howard Payne Lady Jacket basketball team forced 30 Schreiner University turnovers on their way to a 76-37 win Thursday at the Edington Center. 

The game remained close in the opening minutes with the Lady Jackets leading 10-9 with 14:11 left in the first. Howard Payne from that point turned it on and went on an 11-0 run. A Sarah Jockers jumper with 8:25 on the clock gave HPU a 21-9 lead. 

Sparked by great defense, the Lady Jackets extended their lead and held a 32-17 halftime advantage. HPU recorded 11 steals and forced 18 Schreiner turnovers in the first half. 

Howard Payne started the second half with the same intensity as the first, an 8-0 run gave HPU a 40-17 lead with 16:40 left. More Howard Payne from there as the Lady Jackets led 68-31 with 7:14 left on an Amanda Haymaker three-point play. HPU cruised to a 76-37 win. 

Howard Payne shot 45% from the field while limiting Schreiner to just 26%. The Lady Jackets also forced 30 turnovers. HPU outrebounded Schreiner 37-22. 

Schreiner was led by Xandria White with 10 points. No other Schreiner player scored in double digits. 

Brittany Zamora led Howard Payne with 12 points followed by Kelsey Miller with 11. Mionca Hall and Hope Hohertz finished was 9. Stephanie Brewer grabbed a game-high 9 rebounds. 

The Lady Jackets improve to 13-5 overall and 9-5 in ASC action, while Schreiner falls to 0-18, 0-14 in ASC play. 

Howard Payne travels to Seguin on Saturday to take on Texas Lutheran at 1:00 pm.
