HPU quarterback Zach Hubbard threw for 307 yards and four touchdowns. He tossed two TD passes to Edward Cody and had touchdowns to Tre Mason and Cody Hambrick. The TD connection from Hubbard to Hambrick came with 26 seconds to play in the first half and put the Yellow Jackets ahead 42-20. TLU place-kicker Allen Cain hit a 36-yard field goal as the first half ended to make HPU's halftime lead 42-23. Cain's field goal would be the last score for TLU in the game. HPU managed only a field goal in the second half, but the Yellow Jackets' defense tossed a shutout against TLU in the final 30 minutes of regulation. TLU tossed three of its four interceptions in the second half. HPU scored a defensive touchdown in the first quarter when Jake Dezell recovered a TLU fumble in the endzone. The defensive score gave HPU a 14-0 lead. HPU defensive lineman Allen Dixon forced two fumbles, had a sack, and recorded six total tackles. Yellow Jacket defensive back Eric Bunch intercepted two passes. TLU quarterback Jarret Buchholtz tossed three touchdowns to go with the four interceptions. He completed 24 passes in 49 attempts. He was sacked twice. TLU wide receiver Steven Thrash caught eight passes for 109 yards, with a 47-yard TD reception in the first quarter. HPU defensive back Aaron Martin and linebacker Dustin McClure each had seven tackles. Martin added three pass breakups. Howard Payne improved to 3-1 overall and to 1-1 in the ASC. TLU dropped 0-4 overall and to 0-3 in the American Southwest Conference. The Jackets will be at home next week against McMurry University at 2:00 pm. Print Friendly Version
