Jackets Fall To McMurry

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne baseball team dropped a 10-26 loss to McMurry University in American Southwest Conference action at Don Shepard Park. 

The Yellow Jackets produced 10 runs on 15 hits, but 4 HPU errors help fuel the fire for McMurry 26 runs on 28 hits. The Jackets led McMurry 7-5 after the first inning which proved to be a sign of the offensive output of the rest of the game. 

Howard Payne was only able to muster three more runs the rest of the game while McMurry scored in every inning except the top of the fifth and ninth. 

Jeff Jackson and Stephen Derrick had 6 and 5 RBI respectively for McMurry. Three other McMurry players had four hits in the game. 

HPU was led by Blake Shaffer who was 4 of 5 with 1 RBI. Kyle Lloyd, Jordan Hammontree, and Ryan Breeding each had 2 hits. 

Dustin Climer got the loss for HPU and McMurry's Kyle Martin recorded the win. 

Howard Payne falls to 12-19 overall, 5-11 in ASC play, while McMurry improves to 20-12, 11-5 in ASC action. Both teams will face in a double-header on Friday to close out the series
