Jackets Fall To Concordia

AUSTIN, Texas – The Howard Payne University baseball team dropped game one of their series with American Southwest Conference opponent Concordia University Texas 2-8 Friday evening.

Howard Payne scored in the top of the first on a Ben Butler single through the left side scoring Jordan Hammontree.

Concordia got three runs in the first, one in the second, fifth, and seventh, and finally two in the bottom of the eighth. The Jackets scored their second run in the eighth.

Jonathan Morris got the loss for HPU throwing seven innings, striking out six and walking four. Robert Anders pitched one inning of relief work.

Butschek got the complete game win for Concordia striking out seven.

Ryan Abbott, Ben Butler, and Houston Holmes all tallied two hits each for the Yellow Jackets.

Howard Payne is now 3-8 overall and Concordia Texas is at 9-7 on the year. The two teams will play a double header on Saturday to complete the series.
