Jackets Split With Southwestern Assemblies

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University baseball team split a non-conference double header with Southwestern Assemblies of God University 6-2 and 2-3 on Tuesday.

The Yellow Jackets got single runs in the 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th innings before putting away Southwestern Assemblies with 2 runs in the seventh. Kevin Young had three hits in the game for the Jackets.

Robert Anders got the win for the Howard Payne throwing 5.1 innings, giving up just two runs on two hits and striking out seven.

In game two, the Jackets found themselves up early with a two-run homerun by Taylor Zambreski in the opening inning.

SAGU brought the score to 2-1 with a run in the second, then scored their final two runs in the fifth.

Ryan Klose got the loss for HPU throwing 4 innings and striking out seven.

The Yellow Jackets are now at 4-11 overall and will play a conference series with Texas Lutheran this weekend at Don Shepard Park.
