Jackets Give Up Late goals In 4-3 Loss

MARSHALL, Texas –  Howard Payne University led most of the game only to have East Texas Baptist University score two in the final 10 minutes to defeat the Yellow Jackets 4-3. 

In the see-saw American Southwest Conference battle, Howard Payne had the lead for most of the match but ETBU scored two goals in the final 10 minutes of the game for the win. 

The Yellow Jackets are now 3-1-1 overall and 1-6 in conference play. ETBU stands at 4-7-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the ASC.

Howard Payne took the early 1-0 lead in the 24th minute off of an Eric Young goal but ETBU tied it at 1-1 in the 44th minute just before half. 
It was not until the 68th minute that Howard Payne retook the lead when Shay Pate broke away up the middle as Jacob Moore found him. The play developed quickly right after ETBU had a shot deflected off the bar and Moore swooped up the ball going to the middle of the field before passing it up to Pate.

Once again, ETBU acted quickly netting their second goal of the match in the 70th minute on a shot from seven-yards out. In the 73rd minute, just three minutes later, Howard Payne jumped back in front, 3-2, on a Rodolfo DeHoyos header off of a corner kick from Jacob Moore.

ETBU scored from 20-yards out in the 87th minute to secure the win after tying the game in the 83rd minute.

ETBU took 18 shots overall with eight on goal while Howard Payne had 11 shots and 10 on goal.  HPU's Clanahan recorded three saves in the loss.

Howard Payne will play next on October 16th in Abilene versus Hardin-Simmons University at 5:00 pm.
