Baeball Splits DH With LC

PINEVILLE, Louisiana - The Howard Payne University baseball team wins the final game of a three-game series with Louisiana College splitting the Saturday double header 1-3 and 9-2.

The Yellow Jackets now stand at 2-4 overall and will play next at home on Tuesday against Dallas Christian College. The Don Shepard Park double header will begin at noon. 

HPU played LC close in game one falling 3-1. The Jackets got their run in the second when Houston Holmes singled home Ben Butler from second base.

Houston and Carlton Brown each were 2 of 3 from the plate in the game. Gilbert Barrera got the loss throwing 4.2 innings, walking and striking out four. Carlton Brown also saw time on the mound in relief.

The Jackets got the offense going in game two winnning 9-2. After finding themselves down 1-2 at the end of the fourth, HPU scored three in the fifth and added five insurance runs in the nineth to secure the win.

Sam Dollahite was 3 of 5 with two RBI. Dustin Cole also went 3 of 4 in the game. Carlton Brown continued to swing the bat well going 2 of 5 with 3 RBI.

Jonathan Morris got the win throwing 7.1 innings, striking out seven. Carlton Brown and Kyle Berry was some time in refief.
