Baseball Downs Southwestern 4-0

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University baseball team used six pitchers to post a 4-0 shutout win over Southwestern University in non-conference action Tuesday at Don Shepard Park.

After Reed Klose started on the mound for the Yellow Jackets, Garrett Sosa started off the third inning and recorded the win throwing three innings in relief. Sosa gave up just three hits and struckout one. HPU used Derrick Berlanga, Tyler Gaddis, Carlton Brown and Ben Butler in relief to complete the shutout win.

Howard Payne went up 2-0 after the second inning and then added security runs in the seventh and eighth frames. Colton Buzzard and Jake Sadler each had two hit for the Jackets as Howard Payne out hit Southwestern 9-6 in the game. 

The Yellow Jackets now stand at 6-11 overall while Southwestern falls to 6-15 overall. Howard Payne will have a three-game conference series this weekend at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton.
