Jackets Win Regular Season Opener

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne men's soccer team started their regular season with a 1-0 victory over the University of Dallas on a goal from freshman Shay Pate.

After a scoreless first period, Patrick Barker found a cutting Shay Pate for the shot and goal in the 55th minute. The game winner was the first career goal for freshman Shay Pate.

The Jackets outshot UDallas 20-6 in the match. Ryan Young and Drew Clanahan shared the shutout, each playing a period in goal for HPU.

The win is also the first for head coach Estevan Arbaiza, who is in his first year as the Yellow Jackets head man.

Howard Payne will play next on September 4th against Austin College in Sherman, Texas. It will be a 4:00 pm start time.
