Volleyball Plays Host To ASC Pod

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BROWNOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne volleyball posted 3-1 losses to Hardin-Simmons University and the University of Texas at Dallas Saturday afternoon in the Brownwood Coliseum. Hannah Hicks becomes HPU All-time total blocks leader with 318.

Despite the losses the Lady Jackets played solid versus American Southwest Conference leaders Hardin-Simmons and UT-Dallas. HPU middle hitter Hannah Hicks overtook Destiny Barry on the all-time HPU total blocks list this weekend. 

Dropping their match with Hardin-Simmons 3-1 (23-25,25-15,23-25,20-25), the Lady Jackets narrowly lost the 1st and 3rd set 25-23. Sarah Bishop led with 11 kills followed by Hannah Hicks with 10. Hicks also led with two block solos and two block assists. Allyson Adams had 22 assists and Shelby Bridges finished with 14 digs.

The Lady Jackets fell in the second match of the day to UT-Dallas 3-1 (25-22,18-25,21-25,13-25). This time Howard Payne was able to pick up the first set 25-22 before dropping the next three. Bishop finished with 11 kills but also committed 11 attack errors. Taylor Jordan added seven kills with Margje Damstra and Tolli Wylie following with six kills. Bridges would end with three service aces and Hannah Hicks added eight total blocks.

Howard Payne is now 13-7 overall and 4-5 in conference play. The Lady Jackets will travel to Tyler next weekend to play in the ASC pod hosted by UT-Tyler. HPU will take on East Texas Baptist and UT-Tyler on Friday and Mississippi College and LeTourneau on Saturday.
