BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne softball team improved to 3-1 overall with a pair of wins over non-conference opponent Austin College Friday afternoon at Jacket Field.

In game one, a Carissa Zarate two-run homerun would give the Lady Jackets an early lead. Then in the sixth, a Shandi Winstead homerun in 6th would give HPU the lead and eventually the game 3-2.

Bailey Trumble recorded the win for the Lady Jackets going 6 innings and giving up two runs. Caraway would throw the final frame to record the save.

Game two saw Evangelina Tellez hitting a game winning double to score Tylene Middleton and give HPU the 2-1 victory in the eighth inning. The win was set up by Middleton who hit a solo shot in the sixth to tie the game at 1-1.

Keeley Lowrance went 6 innings with no decision giving up one run. Haleigh Caraway threw the 7th and 8th frames to record the win.

The Lady Jackets are now 3-1 overall and Austin College falls to 1-7 overall. HPU will play next at the ASC First Pitch tournament in Farmers Branch, Texas on March 1-2.
