HPU Softball Day Two Of ASC First Pitch

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas - The Howard Payne softball team scored 11 runs on #4 University of Texas at Tyler but would fall in the end 17-11 on day two of the American Southwest Conference First Pitch Tournament.

The eleven run output by the Lady Jackets was the most runs scored on #4 UT-Tyler all season.

After both teams posted four runs in their first at bats, The Lady Jackets would take a 7-5 lead in the bottom of second on a Evangelina Tellez RBI single and a Tylene Middleton two-run homerun. HPU would not be able to overcome a six-run fifth and four-run sixth by UT-Tyler, falling 17-11 in the end.

Evangelina Tellez continued to hit the ball well going 3-for-4 in the game.Katie Poerner and Jessica Morales added two hits in the game for the Lady Jackets.

Baillie Trumble recorded the loss in the start throwing 6.2 innings and striking out two.

In game two for HPU, the Lady Jackets recorded a 4-0 loss to the #22 Louisiana College. Keeley Lowrance got the loss for HPU throwing all seven innings.

Howard Payne is now 3-5 overall and will play next on March 7th-9th in Tuscon, AZ at the Tuscon Invitational.
