Jackets Drop Weekend Series To CTX

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne baseball team recorded double header losses 8-4 and 4-0 to finish out the conference series with Concordia University Texas Saturday afternoon at Don Shepard Park.

Concordia would lead 5-0 after two-run top of the fourth. In the bottom of the inning, Howard Payne's Carlton Brown would bring home Jake Sadler on a sacrifice fly to center field to make the score 5-1.

The Yellow Jackets were down 8-1 going into the bottom of the seventh. Howard Payne would then make a strong push to get back into the game in the final frame. Joshua Martinez singled home Sam Dollahite and then a Carlton Brown triple would score Martinez and Jake Sadler.

Ben Butler recorded the loss for Howard Payne throwing six full innings and striking out four.

In game two, Concordia would get all their offense in the fourth and fifth innings posting two runs in each frame.

Three errors and just one hit for the Jackets would lead to the 4-0 loss for Howard Payne. The scheduled nine inning game was cut short at the start of the bottom of the seventh due to weather.

Gilbert Barrera got the loss for HPU throwing seven innings and striking out five.

The Jackets are now 12-10 overall and 0-3 in conference. Concordia stands at 10-10 overall and 3-0 in ASC play. The Jackets will play next weekend at home versus the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
